We have sought to minimize the need to refer to the XVT Portability Toolkit Release 5 manual and thus show the XVT Portability Toolkit definitions where appropriate. We include tables of the XVT Portability Toolkit options that are pertinent to various classes-for environment settings, window types, unsigned attributes, and so on. Also with convenience in mind, we have chosen to minimize cross- references and to make each discussion of a class as complete and independent as possible. The result is a lot of repetition, but you can find almost everything you need to know about a given class in one place. The discussion of each class includes the following:

Finding Information
Tables of Contents
This reference documents the DSC++ public interface alphabetically, class-by-class. To locate a class, use the "XVT-Power++ Classes" contents page, which lists all classes, or the "New Classes for Release 5" page, which lists only new classes. When you click a class name, you will go to an individual hypertext table of contents for that class.
Methods Indices
At the end of the reference, you will find an "Index of Methods." (Note: you can access the index at any time by using the Navigation Bars at the beginning and end of every file.) If you already know the name of a method, use this index to find it. Or if you are looking for a particular kind of function, use your browser's search capability. For example, if you want to know what methods involve the use of color, go to the methods index and enter the word "color" in the search (or "find") dialog box.
Each class also has its own methods index, including all methods inherited (when applicable) but not overridden. To access the index for a class, simply click the "Methods Index" box at the beginning of the class table of contents. If the class has a parent, you will see a table of contents where you can choose whether to list the class methods or the methods of its ancestor(s).
Navigating the Document
Navigation Bars
At the top and bottom of each file is a navigation bar, which resembles the following:
Note: Navigation bars for individual class-methods indices do not permit forward or backward browsing. Use your browser's Back function to return to your place in the document.
Hypertext Links
This document contains over 20,000 hypertext links, which allow you to "jump" among interrelated topics. The hypertext shows on your screen in a different color and perhaps underlined (the color and underlining depend on your browser settings). After you have followed a link, or a series of links, you can backtrack by clicking your browser's Back button ("Back" in Netscape or the left-arrow button in Internet Explorer).Viewing Illustrations
Graphical illustrations and diagrams are linked to thumbnail sketches that appear on the right side of the viewer window, next to the related information. To see the associated illustration, simply click the thumbnail. To return to the document, click the Back key on your browser's button bar.
