This manual, the Essential Tools Module Reference Guide, describes all the classes and functions in the Essential Tools Module. It does not provide a tutorial on how to program with the Essential Tools Module class library. For information on how to write programs using the Essential Tools Module, consult the Essential Tools Module User's Guide. For information on building the Essential Tools Module, review the RCB User's Guide.
Part 1 offers introductory material on using this documentation.
This chapter explains how this manual is organized, conventions used in this manual, and how member functions are presented.
Chapter 2 organizes the Essential Tools Module classes into groups to help you quickly find the classes you are looking for. For example, if you know you are looking for a string class, you can look at the group of string classes to see which related classes are available.
Chapter 3 provides a class hierarchy diagram. The class hierarchy lists all the classes, and illustrates the relationships among them. You can refer to it for a bird's-eye view of the inheritance structure used in the Essential Tools Module.
Part 2 is the main section and includes an alphabetical listing of classes. The entry for each class includes
An illustration showing the inheritance hierarchy of the class
The module that contains the class
The class group of which the class is a part
A synopsis that lists the header file(s), the Smalltalk typedef associated with the class (if appropriate), a declaration and definition of a class object, and any typedefs that are used
A brief description of the class
A list of member functions and global functions, organized into categories according to their general use; for example, Constructors, Public Member Functions, and Global Operators
